Autoteatro-Ant Hampton

Great Britain, Germany

Coming from his practice since 1999 of creating shows involving unrehearsed guest performers, in 2007 Ant Hampton developed a format that became known as “Autoteatro”, where audience members perform the piece themselves, for each other. By means of instructions via audio, visual cues or text for what to do or say, spectators are guided through situations - their actions, however big or small, become the performance. Not to be confused with gaming (or ‘game show’-like improvisation), Autoteatro does not require audience members to be clever, inventive, or competitive.

NOTE: The individual version of the performance “Undone So Many” at Folklife and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia and Thrace, is also offered in English for people who do not speak Greek.
