L'Encyclopédie de la parole

L'Encyclopédie de la parole is an artistic project exploring the spoken word in all its forms. Since September 2007, Encyclopédie de la parole has been collecting various recordings and indexing them according to specific phenomena that make up how people speak as pacing, chorality, timbre, address, overemphasis, spacing, residue, saturation or melody. The Encyclopédie has dedicated an entry to each of these phenomena, all of which contain an explanatory notice and a set of audio examples.
 
From this collection, including now more than a thousand documents freely available for audio consultation on its website, Encyclopédie de la parole makes use of these recordings to produce works of sound art, performances, shows, conferences, concerts and installations.The project is led by a collective of poets, actors, visual artists, ethnographers, musicians, curators, directors, choreographers, and radio show producers.
 
Its motto is: “We are all experts in speaking.”

Theo Papadimitriou
Theo Papadimitriou was born in Thessaloniki. He is a graduate of the Department of Music Studies of the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Master of Music (MMus) in Music Performance - Conducting from the University of Hull, UK. He holds a diploma in Orchestra Conducting, a diploma in Cello and a degree in Piano, and also degrees in Fugue, in Counterpoint and in Harmony. He composes music for the cinema and for the theatre, and has participated in collective composing for films with Christos Goussios and with the ensemble The Prefabricated Quartet. With The Prefabricated Quartet they have also composed and performed live music for classic films of the silent era. He also composes symphonic works of educational purposes for children’s and youth orchestras. Since 2020 he teaches film music in the Film School of Aristotle University as assistant professor. Theo Papadimitriou is the assistant conductor of MOYSA, the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki Concert Hall, and he has conducted the orchestra in many concerts, opera performances, shows and recordings of film music. He has collaborated with National Theatre of Northern Greece in the performances Frogs (2003, cellist/pianist on stage), Persians (2014, cellist on stage), The Open Couple (2021, original song).
